Woo Hoo. A speed booster for Firefox. It might help you too. I am all Firefox on every machine.

This is from a local Mac Forum:

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return.
Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

At home I have Verizon's fiber optic Fios. The most perfect TV picture and a screaming internet connection at cheaper prices using both Safari and Firefox.

"logically" it seems to me the answer to both would be yes.

OK, Back on topic, well nearly.

Down the boozer later this evening an aquaitanc of mine was raving about a way to speed up Safari. Already pretty nippy as browsers go.

He mentioned a preference you can alter to remove the delay built into Safari when loading a page. He's running Safari 2.

I had to point out that while that line in the .plist can be modified it doesn't make any difference and will be overwritten by the default at the next launch.

More info can be found at

I'm not sure it is a yes. All your asking for is a page, it's a normal page request. This is dictated more by the servers ability to deliver the page rather than your browsers ability to display it. Hack your browser all you like, it won't speed up the server you're connecting to.

I'll look into this a little more today.
