Calling all Vicksburg, Mississippi folks.
This is a bit of a serious post, sorry to those it saddens..
On December 26th, my wife and I were driving back to Texas from North Carolina. As we passed through Vicksburg, MS on I-20 west, I blinked a little too long after driving 12 hours and rolled my SUV off of the interstate. My wife and I were OK, luckily, and so were our dogs. Unfortunately 1 of the 3 dogs, Daisy(in my avatar) ran from the scene. We have spent the past few weeks doing everything we can to track her down. She HAS been seen numerous times in the area of the wreck, hanging out in the median and woods near the rest area and truck scales between Exit 5 and Exit 11. There is lots of residential area and I know she is getting food and shelter somewhere. The last spotting was this past Saturday(1/13/07) in the same area, so I KNOW she is surviving. The major problem is that there is no leash law in V-burg and so since she has on her collar/tags, she most likely appears to just be a neighborhood dog. I know its a long shot to post this here, but I figured every little bit will help. SO, if you are in the area, or know some people in the area, please let them know whats going on and to help us catch her. This is very hard on us being 6 hours from our home. She is very scared and out of her element and is running from people. The day after the accident, a deputy sheriff almost had her in his car when another wreck happened right in front of them and scared her off back up into the woods again. We have been doing everything we can including: running ads in their local paper, announcing this on the local radio, I have been sending messages to all V-burg residents that have MySpace accounts, as well as hanging TONS of flyers in the area. We have some people locally that are helping. The people there have proven to be 1st class. I am posting a link to the flyer with contact info so if you are in the area you can help. Thank you.

Thank God you all are OK! Your dog got frightened half to death and is like you said is near the accident. Someone needs to grab some food and lure her. I hope Daisy makes it back home safely.

Thanks Jim. We really are extremely lucky to have only a few scrapes and bruises, my wife is worse with some bruised ribs... She was in the very back asleep when it happened and thankfully actually, because if she had been in the passenger seat, I really cant even think about what would have happened lookinig at the pictures of the damage..
I have been running it on a couple other forums too... like you said - you never know.. we even went and sat in the median all weekend a couple weekends ago with our other two dogs hoping she would come out and see them, but we had no luck.. 6 hours is a long way to drive every weekend, especially now that Kym's new semester started back up at school.. but we may go back out there either this weekend or next and just sit and wait.. tromping through 6 miles of woods, leaves us feeling a bit hopeless and as people we surely cannot keep up with a running dog..
we left her bowl and a familiar blanket at the wreck site(and a local has been going out and leaving food in the bowl), and with the spottings, I KNOW she is staying put in the area.. hopefully it'll only be a matter of time before she'll start trusting someone who has food.. we're just glad she has on her tags, but frightened that she keeps crossing the interstate.
Thanks again.

Thanks Jim. I also posted similar info in the "Our Pets Pictures" thread in the Off Topic section at GDF. But what you have posted will get more attention. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your lost dog Brandon.
We have three ourselves, and I don't know what we would do if one was to be lost. I applaud you for having tags on your baby. It helps to have the info if you ever come across a lost animal.
good luck and we'll keep you in our thoughts,
David

Thanks Dave. You've been a true friend, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate that.
also to update.. I have found out this morning through another friend on another forum that Daisy is actually a Basenji Mix, that is quite RARE, and all that much more important that we get her back..
here is the profile on Basenjis ---> http://www.qualitydogs.com/Basenji/information.html
note: HARD-CORE survivors and escape artists... cannot be chased. It is going to take someone letting her come to them.
