About the Lounge

I feel like there have been enough questionable threads in the lounge that an announcement needs to be made

The Lounge was started to have a place where off-topic items could be discussed - jokes, hobbies, sports, etc etc etc..

Lately it seems like some threads have turned nasty and filled with personal attacks, which is not what the lounge is here for.

I've always had the mind frame that if I didn't have something good to say or at least some constructive criticism - move along to the next thread. I would like for that type of mindframe be used for the lounge.

I think it's important to have the lounge on this site, but I don't want it here if it's going to be a black eye as well.

Well, you spooked me there when I checked into PPF at 10:34PM PST Monday night and The Lounge was GONE – as in, there was no forum listing after Rants & Raves.

Yeah, come on people...grow up. Silence is usually the best retort to those nasty posters. Just move on.

I think the lounge should be a place where you'd be happy to bring your mom or your kids - full of the joys of life. We'd have to make it non-smoking though. :roll:

I also believe we should have a seperate forum called 'The Hell Pit' or something. Definately an adults-only venue where you can let rip if you so desire. It's part and parcel of the modern life we now live in I'm afraid.

Having said that we need to keep The Lounge. I know so little about pre press if it went I'd have nothing to say anymore. Now that would not be good (IMHO - to hell with what you lot think!!!!). :lol:

We're all adults here, we all know how to behave in a decent way. This is a world wide forum, that fact should be painfully obvious by now. The Lounge, or any lounge, is a place to relax and have a little fun. But not at someone else's expense nor is it a place for vulgarity. For crying out loud people it's on the intenet so it's basically permanent for all intents and puproses. Think of how you are representing yourself. A bit of sarcasim and self deprecating humor is healthy. But come on, a lot of this is getting rediculous. I'd mention names but it really wouldn't do any good since the people wouldn't understand. And that's just a sad fact. I have my suspicions about why desktoppublishing.com traffic died down so much.

There are some 3,677 member of the site. Yet the conversations seem to be dominated by 10 people. Much of which is purely fluff. If you read any of it, it happens to have little or nothing to do with prepress or is down right offensive. Some companies have content filters or other electronic measures of monitoring employee usage of the internet. I've been nailed by an employer for foul language on this website simply by reading a thread that contained vulgar language. How fair is that to me? I lost access to this site because of the language that other people were using. And then when I said something about it, I was essentially attacked for it.

Here's my view on all this: Keep it decent and keep it clean in the lounge or anywhere else here or leave the site. For me it's just that sample. After all, would you really behave this way in person?
