Ok, I'm an idiot. I've been poking my nose in and out of this thread and I can see the point on both sides but I've got to say we are in the printing and graphics business not the wine and cheese business. The trade is not for the faint of heart. It aint war or a hospital but it will take it's toll on people over time, especially those who do the real production work not a person who did a little and put his nose in the right spot and got a position of authority. What I seem to see is some sort of power play going on here. Someone taking charge for the betterment of all. I know of a site called http://www.2-popforums.com/forums/ that used to be very popular with the film editors and it found itself, I think, where PPF is today. They enforced stricked guidelines. Sounds very nice and all but the site is a ghost of what it used to be. No personality at all.

Wrong
I had to edit this, I didn't mean that Jim's post was wrong, I meant he's not an idiot. 8)

I haven't been on PPF for too long, but it is an informative site with knowledgable people, who have helped me out with prepress problems.
There is no need for bickering. Rejoice in that all contributors are smart and are helpful to those with questions. Band together and witness the combined power of your intellegence that makes this site bookmark worthy!!!
BTW, my favourite part of the lounge is on the odd Friday after a busy week, wishing everyone a great weekend and hoisting a glass with my favourite beverage! (Today, it's a nice port)
CHEERS!

Lately it seems like some threads have turned nasty and filled with personal attacks, which is not what the lounge is here for.
I've always had the mind frame that if I didn't have something good to say or at least some constructive criticism - move along to the next thread. I would like for that type of mindframe be used for the lounge....

Cory your so right about constructive criticism. Many time I will go on a bulletin and read something that incenses me. When that happens I usually write my response in Word, but I do not post it until a later day, after I've had a chance to think about it, and my response to it, then I usually edit the response with the spirit that Cory's intentions has.
Another pet peeve is when a topic goes of topic—but that's another topic, ha ha!

Re: About the Lounge
Seriously? Your pulling this thread?
One of my pet peeves is lounge crap pulled to light 6 months after it died.
Understandably, you're new here. Pulling old threads from Apps, Workflows, Font, OS issues. You know, the actual prepress environment forums, totally understandable, commendable in fact. You weren't here and the question may have died and you need an answer or you have an answer.
But really, a thread from July? from the Lounge?

The thread was still active in October. Why must the harshness continue?

Pointy, Brandon, et al, why even bother if you aren't going to be respectful? It is perfectly reasonable to expect that someone new would want to add their views. If it was such a problem then why even respond?
While we're asking about relavance, when was the last time either of you contributed something useful?

To be perfectly honest Matt, we have been growing at The Finishing and Mailing Center, plus the holidays and I've been way too busy and havent frequented much lately. I really just couldnt help myself with this one because it was in response to a new member and I get really sick of Pointy being so harsh. I wouldnt want a new member to think that attitude is representative of the whole community.
