I think that some people love the lounge because it offers a place to comment on things other than work/prepress/applications and I have no major problem with what is posted here.

I think that it's good that there are places like ppf.com that offer this and have no issues with stuff that is posted in the lounge as long as it is suitable for work.
For stuff that is not suitable for work, the poster should put a NSFW tag in the thread post so that people can skip that post if they are at work.

I visit a couple of other message boards that aren't prepress related and some of them are nasty about posting and some are very lax about the posts.

If you have ever checked out ilouge.com (for iPod related information), those moderators are complete dictators and crack down on multiple postings, posting in the wrong thread and make the posters feel that they are lucky to be posting there.

I also am a member in sonsofthesportsguy.com. It's a message board that is primarily based on the writings of espn.com columnist Bill Simmons. I love that board because people talk all about TV, sports, life, sports radio, columnists and just about everything guys talk about.
I go there to post funny stuff, leave jokes, talk about TV shows. I think that ppf.com lounge lovers would love that site and welcome anyone to check it out because it is like an extended lounge with the wide variety of topics.

I come to ppf.com to learn information regarding prepress, and will continue to do so as long as the topics in places like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and others stay on topic.

Ppf.com is a good informational site and lets keep it that way. Keep the good information and ideas coming, it's a great venue for people to fix issues at work. For the lounge, keep it free spirited, but please think about other people who read it at work and try to keep it suitable for work. If you don't think that it is suitable for work, it probably isn't and post a link to inappropriate material where people can check it out at home or away from work.

My gosh! from the sound of things this forum is fixing to get pretty boring.

Some comments sound like the parent from Frisco Texas that had a teacher fired for taking their kid to Dallas Museum of Art.

The kid saw the Statue of David (nude) the parent who expects everyone to raise their kid is the 1st to cry foul and apparently get their way.

Let's all become squeaky wheels and throw temper tantrums when we do not get what we want - we can have threads removed daily -

Dan, if you look at the context of the use of that word you will notice that the intention of the use was non-offensive. Maybe it would qualify as a word that a content filter would flag. I doubt it though. It does not quite make it on the list of words content filters are looking for.

Regarding the context of words. It is not the words themselves that are offensive, it is the context in which they are used that makes them offensive.

...and that is exactly what pisses me off about the way you speak to people. Dont you think you could phrase the things you say not so harsh. I was making a statement of my opinion of what the thread was refering to. Your's happens to be one of the few attitudes that I spoke of. :x what the hell is wrong with being nice or courteous? :x

Well, maybe what it is going to take is for someone to be the hammer that enforces some decency in language and tone. I hate the idea of thought police or a list "mom" or "dad". However if that's what it takes to start to clean things up outside of the lounge, or even in the lounge, then I have no problem doing that. I've already offered the appropriate people for me to be the "bad guy" here.

So figure it out amongst yourselves, ya'll can do it yourselves or I'll do it for you.

How's that? Nice, simple and direct.

I love www.desktoppublishing.com. It's been my home page for years. I'm extremely proud of my thread count too. 1800 posts in 4 years. As opposed to you. 3500 in 1 year, most of those in the lounge. C'mon, fess up, when you first started posting here it was your singular goal to get your post count up, to be a post whore. I'm pretty sure I can find the links where you expressly made that known.
DON'T even think about dissing Robert, DTP.com or any of the unbelievably talented and professional people that post there. You really do have no clue what your talking about.
Christ, that's where I met Cory.

ok, just have to chime in here. I found this forum earlier this year and i'm so glad i did. I have found many useful tips and workarounds here. I would be posting more "helpfuls" but much of the time, when i am able to cruise the forum during the work day, many of the questions have already been answered. I've been able to help out a few folks, but that was just timing, as no one else had posted a solution.

Thank God for the lounge and the thread hijacking. Otherwise i would miss out on the daily humor that i need to sometimes get through the day.

I admit being a bit of a clown myself, but aren't we all here for support for one another and to bounce ideas off one another?

The Lounge is a great place to blow off steam. Who else in this industry but us, knows the headaches that we deal with from day to day. I'll bet most of our co-workers don't have a clue as to the magic we do day in and day out to get the horrible files we encounter to look great on press.

I really don't think we need any babysitters here. We are all adults and realize if we step over the line. And we have all made apoligies where needed.

All I'm saying is that we have a great talent pool here, in which to draw from, and it should not be shut down. We all need to blow off steam and I think we all do a pretty good job of keeping it in the lounge or the rant and rave section.

just my 2 cents.

I'm just a fluffer

For what it's worth..... Desktopublishing.com is not drowning. it's just never taken off much. It's got as much activity now as it ever has. Thing is... there are only a handful of knowledgeable people there so there generally isn't a great deal of "how to" stuff posted since they all pretty much know their skill set well. I defy you to find a more helpful place if someone does ask a question though. Were all more than generous with our knowledge between each other. it's like having a team of very skilled professionals all willing to help out with any little thing. Not a huge forum of users with random experience levels that may or may not know what they are doing.

Sorry, I'm not really a member here. Know of it.. but never found a lot of need. But I do like fluffing though.
