this thread isnt about any individual thread or comment.. it is about a collection of threads, a collection of attitudes, a collection of comments, and a collection of fluff from my(and others) belly button.

What a stink this has brought up. I agree with most people in this thread in one degree or another. Fluff is needed, vulgar fluff no so needed.
To be honest, if there's such an etiquette issue then we need to have a general guidelines listed in each forum.
Lords knows I've posted a lot of fluff here but I've also rarely, if ever, used any real vulgar words. But that's my own choice. But yes, the fluff should stay in the lounge (I'm sure I'm guilty of posting fluff in other forums in some way but I've tried not to do that anymore).

yep. ...from what Ive found in life sometimes that's the best way to clear the air.(pun intended) I think if we all get some feelings out on the table , it can only help progress the forums in a more positive direction. I know I have tried to significantly reduce my fluff lately(past 3 months), but it cant just stop all together... what fun would that be.. but Matt youre completely right, the vulgarity and language isnt fair at all to people who get in trouble at work because of something someone else said...
did someone say something about a pit of hell forum?? that may be good... GDF has a CNSFW(content not safe for work) section..

I'm fine with people blowing off steam or posting fluff on the Lounge threads -- and Lord knows I don't mind vulgarity -- so long as it's limited to the Lounge (and to a degree the Rant & Rave section). Anyone who remembers the leper joke I told in one of the joke threads several months back should know that.
What I object to, though, is when that attitude creeps into the actual threads asking genuine questions or offering tips, or the occasional posting of a photo that is utterly not worksafe when there are no warnings. The last thing in the world I want to have to worry about at work in my prepress job -- or even should have to -- is whether or not I can open a thread in a prepress-oriented forum.

I seem to remember a certain moderator's mantra, "Proper Previous Planning Prevents Piss-Poor Performance" being written in these forums somewhere.
Isn't the word "piss" considered vulgar?

Why on Earth do you think this thread needs to be locked? If you don't want to keep reading it, then don't read it. I find it quite interesting, actually. There's nothing wrong with an animated discussion that has obviously kicked up a little dust. And since we're in The Lounge, it doesn't need to conform to prepress-only topics.
