Adobe Atmosphere's dead... what's next?

Adobe had a neat little package out called Atmosphere. I hadn't checked on it for a while, hoping that it would have gotten a lot better and smoother in a second version but I just checked and found out that Adobe officially canned the program three months ago.

Does anyone know of any other Atmosphere-like apps in the works or available now? It'll be pretty neat in twenty years or so when every time we go online it'll be a 3D 'virtual' world, kinda like in the Otherland novels minus the full immersion (the headgear's gonna take at least thirty years I though, I think...).

High end PC gamers have been in these virtual worlds for a looooong time. I'm just looking forward to the day when high-quality 3D virtual worlds are available to your average Joe. (and when the 800 x 600 resolution fades into legend, a legend that falls into myth, and over the centuries is forgotten about entirely... )

Ya know, there was a 3-D file browser for OSX that I stumbled across some time ago. It actually let you "step through" the directory structure using platters as guidepoints for where you were in the system. Kooy. Fun for about 15 minutes, then you realized how much longer it was taking to find things.

neato - I didn't think to look at file browsers - I'll have to see if there's a version for the PC for. It's not like I'm clocking my time at home so might be fun

dead adobe's

I think that the next to go will be Illustrator. I really think that Adobe has gone as far as they can with both Photoshop and Illustrator. To me it seems obvious that they have got to be thinking about combining vector and raster. Photoshop is their 'big gun' so that legacy will continue. Maybe they'll tag it "Photoshop Universal 1" or Photo/Illustrator or some such thing. Then next they'll merge In Design into the package and it'll sell for $2,000.00. That'll weed out the wannabe's.
