Tape Backup

I am looking for a reliable tape backup system. I will be using retrospect to back up a 100 to 300 GB file server running OSX Server on a G4. I have used a 20 gig Travan drive in the past but after only 2 years I had 2 tapes fail and then the drive failed. Any suggestions and your experiance would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to set this up within the month.

Backup storage space is cheap. A couple 500 GB firewire Hard Drive setups just set it up so you can dump the contents to the Firewire drive and store one on site and one off site. Your server could/should be running a mirrored raid setup also this would give first level of fault tolerance. The Firewire drives would be on and off site secondary.

And if a server did go down the firewire backup drive could be hooked up to a temporary server until you were back up again.

We use the Sony SDX-500C

AIT-2 Internal Ultra2/LVD Tape Drive.

Fully backward read/write compatible with AIT-1 cartridges

Internal, Wide Ultra SCSI SE/LVD, 68-pin HD

We use the Sony tapes that are 50 GB uncompressed, 100 GB compressed. It's pretty fast too but I'm not sure the exact speed it is rated at but you could probably find that info online if you really want it.
