Thumbs up HI, I'm new here... sort of

I've been reading, but never posted. I'm a Typesetter at the end of his run. I took over a very small business in Kansas City last fall. We started out in 1981 with Editwriters (still have a manual and a filmstrip, wish I had a 8086 chip from one). Had some success, but my partners took the cash assets out and we fell behind the curve. Now I'm just hanging in (I'm in my late 50s). Still run some film for the diehard commercial printers who are my clients.

My skills are behind the curve too. Have used Quark since 2.2 as my primary layout program. Up to 7.0 now... also have CS3. Have never worked in a major prepress shop, just some newspaper and agency freelance work in the 90s.

PPF is a great look into the modern prepress world and I enjoy the time I spend here.

Thanks to you all.
Chuck

Talking

Since no one else has responded - Welcome!!

I spend a bit of time in here as well because it is so much different to the normal techy forums, with a fair bit of bitching and fun and drinks thrown into the mix.

Its nice to talk to people with the same experiences in life rather than just get answers to tech questions etc.

Cheers, BigD.

Ahhh, another brand new old timer!

Welcome to the PPF Zoo Chuck, don't let the family squabbles get to ya! At the end of the day it's only printing, nobody died.

Yet.

Welcome Chuck from another New Oldtimer. I enjoy it here cause no one- pressmen, designers and especially bosses really understand Prepress people except other prepress people. :-)

How nice it is to hear from someone who knows what an EditWriter is/was. I started on an earlier model the CompuWriter II. That's if I remember correctly... I was very, very young at the time... maybe 9 or 10.

30 years...

Then you know what a filmstrip actually is! I figured I'd have to explain it. LOL
