Every print shop should have someone who knows what they are doing - talking with the customers.
Someone who can open, edit, check, fix files, and report in a clear and upfront manner to the customer.
I already do this among a ton of other responsibilities, it's very time consuming.
If one person could focus on it... they could get the work flowing in the front door like crazy!
Not to mention coming in damn near right/technically sound.
I think a highly skilled Prepress operator with a good attitude would make a killer CSR/Sales Rep.
I manage the Prepress Dept and bring in over $50k a year in sales for our company.
All while working 40-60 hours a week doing the normal Prepress thing.
New business, customers that did not use us before I "sold" them!
Imagine if I could devote 40-60 hours to just sales....

Well yeah!

Close your eyes.

Think of where strippers are today. Now imagine where prepress operators and customer service reps will be 3-5 years from now.

Change or go away!

Best.

It sounds ok if that is in fact what you say it is but it could be a CSR who's feeding the presses and dealing with the customers all day. The problem I have with it is the phone. Would the phone be a ball and chain and I mean grabbing at that phone every minute. Been there.

not really sure what this means...so if the old guys had learned to be csrs they would still have jobs? The ones that could learn the new way, have, the ones that couldnt moved on. I don't see the relationship when talking about a full production prepress op/CSR. IF you are looking for a non production prepress person to handle csr duties, preflighting etc, then yea, be a good idea. Ad reads more to me like nightmarish job, then the latter

It would depend on how large your shop is. We have 6 CSRs who handle at least 15 sales people. Simply put our volume is to large. Now a small shop would be something different.---maybe. I think it is a production job.
