Preps question

Does anyone know how to mirror pages in preps for the jet? We do alot of two sided #10 envelopes and this would be handy to know. Right now we are making reversed .ps files for the backside and we'd like to get away from doing that. Anybody doing it better/different?

Not sure I understand your question. But if it is a matter of rotaiting pages, you do that either of two ways in Preps:

1. Rotate the appropriate run list page.

2. Rotate the appropriate page in the template signature used.

Do only one, not both.

If that wasn't it, please restate you question.

No, I mean mirrored. Like wrong reading, reversed type. On the jet the back side is on the same plate as the front side and has to be mirrored/reversed. I havent figured out a way to reverse or mirror a page in preps. We are just printing the page wrong reading/reversed from quark or indesign now.

I just checked at e-central for mirrored and for wrong reading, but got nothing.

I am not at work, so I cannot check this now, but if you have access to Preps try making a template with an independent page, but use a negative value for width or height (not both). This does work for text marks, and may work for independent pages too. If the template editor goes along with it, save it and test it in the previewer with a live right reading run list page.

If you do try it, post back.

OK, I tried it and it does not work.

I also tried this:

In the .cfg file there is a setting line

-BACKMIRRORFRONT:No

at line 106 on my copy. I tried setting that to "Yes" and saving the file as Mirror.cfg in a forder named "Mirror" in the Preps profiles folder, and then loading that profile in Preps. But that did not mirror either side of the page in a sheetwise template.

Anybody know what that line in the cfg file does?

You might try posting your query on Kodak's Preps forum. I know that it is frequented by Kodak employess ready to assist.

I answered my own question. The line:

-BACKMIRRORFRONT:No

in the cfg file records the choice made in Fitting/Tiling Setup under tiling options.

For the problem appstro posed, I find no solution in Preps up to 5.1.5. But the way he says he is doing it now sounds good to me, if slightly inconvenient since he needs to output the front separate from the back.

I use Enfocus Pitstop in Acrobat to mirror the backs of the envelopes for our Superjet. Under the Global Change button, on the Page tab, there's a place to flip contents horizontally. Works like a charm. Hope this helps.
