"Smart" barcodes in UpFront

We use auto-generated barcodes in some of our impositions, which are read by our perfect binder to ensure sections are collated into the correct order. We used to use barcode images which we placed manually on the Brisque, but when we recently upgraded to Prinergy this option was no longer available to us.

We began using auto-generated bar codes (written by Ray Johnson) and all was well, until we tried to work two sections up together on one sheet. UpFront places the same barcode on both sections! As you can imagine, this could potentially lead to some very costly errors. As you can also imagine, Kodak are alternately sticking their heads in the sand and blaming Ray Johnson (a former employee) rather than offering any solutions themselves, or admitting fault (heaven forbid!).

Has anyone come across a similar problem? If so, how did you get around it? I know the obvious answer would be to stop working multiple sections up together, and we have for the moment, but we paid for the software because we need it to work!

Update: We have found a workaround-- using Preps to edit the mark on the signature in the template before it gets imported into Prinergy and change it to "Section 2"-- but it's only a workaround.

Yep, seems like us... Uur planning and efficiency are always outsmarting the systems (like Preps limitations for example)
Like we can mix up sigs on forms, like F10 has sigs 3,8&9... but Preps doesn't like it and won't creep correctly. let's you know you're alive! LOL

Yes, and woe betide you if you're trying to do creep on a twist and turn booklet!

Twist and turn, I like that, we call it "come and go"

One of the problems in the industry is that different printers have different names for the same things. Then a computer programmer writes a program that uses terms he just made up... It's a wonder any of us can do our jobs!

Yeah, in Prinergy for instance, "Shall I use the Process process to process this file?"

......as long as the job prints in process!
