Preps - Colorbars on Pages

I have 17.5 x 23 sheet with four 8.5 x 11 pages that were imposed in InDesign as 8up business card templates. Then the masters will get chop cut down to the 8.5 x 11 sheets and we can run imprints on small press. So, we want to add a color bar down the middle of the sheet horizontally. When I rip it the pages cover the colorbar because there isn't a gutter in the Preps template. Any way wround this in Preps 5.0.3.

I worked around it by placing the colorbars in the InDesign file.

That's what we end up doing on weird ones like this, or when we want the colorbar to stop for 4" through an envelope flap, etc...
we end up putting it in the native and ripping it...
I'd be interrested in a better answer too!

Another one for the disappointed in Preps file. Has to be one of the most frustrating professional tools I use.

It is limited to some extent, for example, it's no good at nesting (like boxes and envelopes)[/b]

Yeah, we make envelopes and print them here, and like you said, I do it all in the native and just rip the single sheet.

It took me forever to just be able to select the the color bar on the page nad delete. It wants to grab the gutter and the page and everything but the colorbar. Little things like that really bug me in Preps.

8) If you update your Preps version to 5.2 you can use page marks. That way you can place a smart dupe mark (your color bar) on each page.

Why not turn off all the other page elements you don't want? Makes selecting individual items easier.

When you place the colorbar in Preps, there is an option to Bring Mark to Front (verbiage may be slightly different - I'm not at work) - make sure it is checked and the bar will sit on top of the pages.

Also, if you have problems grabbing the colorbar, turn off the gutters - it's one of the buttons on the toolbar in Preps. They are still there, but they disappear from the screen making it possible to select other elements.
