Preps not seeing templates and marks
We have Preps 4.2.3 running on a G4 tower with OS9. I recently added a slave drive to the G4 for more storage. Ever since I installed the new drive, Preps preferences default every time the computer is rebooted. Preps doesn't see my templates or marks. They are in the same place they always have been. I change the preferences and all is OK. Then I reboot the machine and it goes back to not seeing the templates. I disconnected the new drive and get the same results.
The error I get when I try to load a profile is:
Move or copy the templates and marks you want to use into the new location.
Anyone have any ideas?

With the default profile selected go to your preferences and set your location of your templates and marks. I believe this will take care of it.
I think that when you change from the default profile to the one that you use Preps noticed that the locations are different. Any restart of the software and it reverts back to the default profile.
If you only use one profile, you could save it over the default.
When we were on version 4, I set my shortcut to the profile we used, this launched preps with our profile and we never had to change it. This doesn't work in 5.

I am setting the location of the templates and marks folder. The problem is that Preps doesn't recognize the folders are there. The Templates and Marks folders have always been in the Preps folder, which is inside the Applications folder. I created a new folder in the Preps folder and copied the Templates and Marks folders there. So now I have two Templates and Marks folders. If I go to Preferences and choose the new folder with Templates and Marks in it, it sees everything fine. I can open templates using Apple L, if I hit the Signatures button I see all my sigs. Now, if I go to Load Profile, when I hit OK I get the error telling me to Move or copy the templates and marks you want to use into the new location. Then if I hit Apple L I see no templates, if I hit the Signatures button I see no sigs. I check the Preferences and it is back to the way it was before I set the new location. The path is to the Preps folder, which has a Templates and Marks folder inside it. Preps just doesn't recognize the folders are there. It is like Preps has a severe short term memory problem.
I am thinking about reinstalling Preps, but I've never installed Preps before, only Preps upgrades. If I reinstall the program, will I lose the templates, marks and profiles?

Each profile has a set of preferences. Load your profile. Set the location of your templates and marks and any other preferences you need for this profile. Then save your profile, overwriting it if it tells you it already exists. The next time you load your profile it should still see the templates and marks folder.
Edit: Each profile needs to have the preferences set individually.

Joe, you are the man! I didn't realize every profile has its own prefs. I was getting so frustrated I was about to throw the computer across the room. What I don't understand is why it stopped seeing the original Templates and Marks folders. I had to resave all the profiles with the path leading to the new folder that has the copied Templates and Marks folders. Oh well, the problem is solved. I'll leave it at that.
Thanks guys!

Did you change the name of the original drive? Could be that somehow Preps was looking at the new drive thinking the new drive was the old. Not sure really. Computers are fickle sometimes.

Yes I did. I changed the names of both drives. It all makes perfect sense now. I feel like an idiot. I didn't even notice that the folder path had the old drive name. Again, you are the man. Thanks!
