Preps - Possible to "Print to a PDF" with a Nexus

Is it possible to set up a "printer" (a workflow) to create a PDF of an imposition? We had a customer who wanted to get the PDF so they could use it to draw die art.

I tried setting up a new "Device" in Preps for our "Vector PDF" workflow, but either I didn't set it up correctly, or it's not possible.

thanks for any help

We've been using PDF to PDF for months. Well, since Preps version 5.2.

[Yes this can be done!

We had a customer who wanted our exact press sheet layout so they could create a die for some business cards. We "print" our press sheets to a Canon color copier to give the pressmen an idea of what the press sheet should look like. I just figured there ought to be a way to get a PDF made of the press sheet using one of the Nexus workflows that we use to create PDFs from InDesign or other programs.

It seems like this would be an accurate way to create dies if the Preps layout PDF could be used and the placement boxes could be outlined (and then rounded, arched, or whatever the die design needs to be)

Send a message via MSN to LoganBlade
Do you have a proofer?

I send the impo to my proofer Que.
this generaates a PS file in the printer folder.
I navigate to this copy to my Mac
then drop on distiller

SHould work if your work flow is anything like mine

I see you use Best Color Proofer HP 5000. We have a 9600.

Thanks, I'll see if I can get to the PS file. That would be another way to create a PDF!

I'm not sure how your workflow works, however you can create a ps file to Distill right out of Preps. You may need to add the PDF pages to your run list in Preps if you are in a workflow that uses fpos, and then print a PS file (under "send to" set it to "PS File" instead of printer) to Distill or Edit.

You can write a PDF right out of Preps. No extra distilling involved.

I haven't worked with Nexus very long, but If you create a new job PDF>PDF from preps. Then create a pdf from your native app like quark or indy and add those PDF's you can print a PDF right out of Preps. You may also be able to use the ripped trapped pages, but I know you can't use the Links from nexus. Hope it helps. Also this work around was do to the company I work for doesn't use the Vector part of Nexus yet.
