Overprint Black fails to overprint

Do you ever have problems with Preps failing to make black overprint evn when it's set to in the print dilogue box. I had to go back to the illy file and set black to overprint there because preps wouldn't do it.

All our jobs go through Preps 5 and are sent to hot folders on our Harlequin 6.2 RIP

Are you letting Preps do the separating, or do you send composite to your RIP? If it is the latter, than I don't think the problem lies in Preps - it's just passing the code straight through.

Yes, we send composite to the RIP it it gets seperated there. But in setting black to overprint in the Preps print dialogue aren't you asking Preps to not just pass code through but alter it?

I'm on an older version of Preps (4) and do not have a Black Overprint button in the Print dialog. Perhaps they added this feature in 5.

I don't use preps, but one time in Rampage I saw this happen. I've had to go back into the application and set trapping to overprint on the object itself as well. I don't know why. Sometimes data can be a ho.

The option to overprint black was available in preps 4 but will not work on placed items. The black in question has to be live in the document or it wont work. You'll find some bits overprinting and others not. Preps can resolves lots of issues but if the artwork is garbage the RIPPED file wont be much better.
