If you have a sevice contract I think it is a "free" upgrade(it was before Kodak anyway). Just call the number you would for sevice and ask them to send you the upgrade for Brisque 5. You still get to muddle through the install yourself though.

Our upgrade was definitely not free (I don't know the details of our service contract), but we did get a Kodak field engineer to install and configure it.

It took him almost an entire 8 hour day to complete, so figure if you are muddling through yourself you might want to do it on a weekend. And back everything up.

This was at my last job, and all I know is our tech told us to request the upgrade, and they sent it to us. In fact, a couple of months later we had a second copy show up out of the blue. If we had been getting charged, I know I would have heard about it. I think we were still designated a beta test site(we had Brisque 4.1 installed before the help desk people were supporting it), so that could have had something to do with not getting charged. :?

As for the install of Brisque5, they were going to make us do it ourselves. I remember our argument was you can send a tech to help us or we can screw it up and then you can send a tech to fix it after we are down a day. There were also some concerns about our system handling the upgrade since we were pushing it's limits already. As such, we hadn't gotten around to actualy doing the instal before I moved on so I don't know how it went, or if they ever did it at all. I know they have now switched over to Prinergy.

If you are under Full Service Contract, the software is free, but the install by a Tech is a paid service.

This is the way I understand it:
the cost of the upgrade is dependant upon if you meet the hardware requirements. I'm guessing late model versions of Brisque 4.1 meet those hardware requirements in which you get the upgrade for free. Our Brisque 4.1 is a tower system with 4 processors and 2 hard drives. It's friggin' huge! Yet doesn't meet the upgrade specs so we would be charged an arm and a leg in order to upgrade, even though we're under the full boat service contract. They would have to bring in a whole new box.

As is any software upgrade... if your hardware isn't beef enough to run the software, you have to buy into better hardware.

But you shouldn't have to pay for the SOFTWARE if you are under a Full Service Contract.
