Preps form/plate number

Does anyone know how to insert a custom text line in preps that will show, for instance, Form 1 front, form 1 back, form 2 front...etc.

We figured out how to get only a number....eg. 1 for plate 1 but that appears on front and back as well. It's not very straightforward, you have to type the code $SIG to get it to appear but it's not enough information seeing as we join 2 halfs to get a 8up plate. I would have thought this would be automatic like it is in INPostion but it appears that It's not.

Thanks

You can add the $SIDE code to your existing $SIG tag, and it will label it 1A and 1B, but it won't say "Front" and "Back" - just A or B.

I tag like this:
Sig $SIG Side $SIDE

So it looks like this on the plate:
Sig 1 Side A
Sig 1 Side B

A little confusing at first - just need to educate everyone downstream that A is front and B is back.

I use the "Flat Identifier Text" under "Add Static Mark..."

Typicaly I make it 5" long and include: $jobname $color $sig $side $date

jobname = filename
color = [CMYK]
sig = form#
side= A,B,C,D -C&D if you have a web form

The $ marks a variable which is pulled from the imposition, so anything else will show up as it is typedlike DCurry has added. There should be a list of accepted variable terms somewhere in the Preps manual.

....and i like to add $comment so we can use the comment line when printing the pjtf files out to prinergy.

The comments then can be used for whatever you like but generally to created versions when the template is exactly the same layout.

This same question is dealt with on the Gua Preps forum at this link:

http://www.mygua.org/forums/showthread.php?t=680

It includes a post in which I give postscript code for an eps mark that will do exactly what you want. But that mark will not work in pdf to pdf jobs. There are some other suggestions as well in that thread.

I use $[SurfaceName] in preps going to prinergy and it will give you front or back. For regular preps you would remove the brackets. So it would be $SurfaceName I don't know if this will work with preps. I am not sure how I could test this without prinergy picking it up. Hope it helps
