Kobe,
Yes Preps can do this. But You need to spend some time learning Preps. It is not a simple mater to give you a 1, 2, 3, etc.
First you need to master the main concepts. Then you can proceed to the particular steps (the 1, 2, 3, etc). The concepts are that preps lets you layout pages on press sheets. It then prints the press sheet to a device like your Dolev 400. Press sheet layouts are kept in Templates that are then used during the output.
I think the max size on the 400 is 500 x 642. So you create several teplates with this "press sheet" size, and you put combinations of A4 and A5 pages on them, and save them for use later during particular output sessions. They are completely reusable. But when making these templates, you have to create the spacing between the "pages" (separate jobs in your case) so as to allow for cutting them appart, for bleed, and for any register marks, and labels for color, and such. To put pages of different sizes on a press sheet, you use "independent pages" for which you have to specify the x, y position for each one on the sheet. It will seem like a lot of work, and it is. But the good news is that you can later use these layouts over and over again.
Give yourself plenty of time to learn the Preps application before you start doing film output. I assume you have a real postscript laser printer. Preps can print the template layouts at a reduced size to fit you laser printer page. You should use this to practice and to test that you have created the templates correctly and that they work the way you intend.
Also, Preps will let you create custom film sizes for the 400, you do not have to use the max size.
Good luck.
