Preps 5.1.5 & missing sheet register/sideguide/fold mark
When paginating 8.5x11, perfect bound on 23x35, the 1/8" all around bleed margin covers/masks the sideguides, sheet register and cross-hair fold marks. Any suggestions as a fix or workaround?javascript:emoticon('')
BTW - The Creo Users group site sucks...javascript:emoticon('')

I've had the same problem with marks disappearing in 5.1.5. We had an older version on another machine and any time we opened a template in the earlier version and saved it it would delete the marks that were added in 5.1.5. We upgraded the other version to 5.1.5 and the problem went away.
About the Creo Users group site sucking, I agree but have been told by a mod (when complaining about how their site sucked) that they are re-doing the whole thing within a couple of weeks and are going to enable the search function for all members and not just those with Creo service contracts plus they are going to dump the mailing list format and move to a message board format. I'll believe it when I see it.

First, I would not want my sheet marx creeping into my bleed area.
If I decided I did want that to happen (say the job has no bleed) you can get info on the page that is killing your marx off, go to advanced settings, and set bleed relative to front and knock it down to no bleed or a sixteenth inch and it should let the marx show up.

we have the same issue, and as a workaround, we simply create line marks on our preps templates, and set them to "bring to front". on folder jobs, we require the crosshairs. ill make my new marks .125" total and center them on top of the work, so they overprint .0625 into the .125 bleed on either side. its a stinks that we have to do it, so if anyone knows a better way, im open to hearing it!

Hey Chris,
Where in Preps 5.1.5 application does it allow you to bring the marks forward or backward? This is something I see in Quark and the likes...
Thanks,
Mark

printmonger,
if you select a mark on your template, and do get info (command-I), you will see a selection on the lower right side of the dialog box to "bring to front", or something to that effect (im out of the office today, so i cant remember exactly). this will bring that particular mark on top of everything, including bleed.

OK, after fiddly-assing around, here's whats going on with the missing sheet register marks, fold marks and side guide marks. When creating a new template, there are 2 ways to place these marks. As you create the new template, you can choose to add crop marks, size the fold marks and place the side guide marks, all within the create a new template dialog box (much like Preps 4.xx). If the template does not allow any unprinted area to show between the template page (which includes 1/8" default bleed), the marks will be covered and not show on the film or plate. 2nd choice is to create a new template with NO MARKS of any kind from the first dialog box and add them all as SMART MARKS, making sure you bring them to the front (much like Quark or Pagemaker). This is an extra step and obviously not one thought up by printers. Prep on!!!

PS - did anyone get the email announcement from the Creo Users Group about the latest and greatest redesigned site?

Yes, and it looks a whole lot better than the old mailing list. Still waiting for a user name and password though.
