Preps 4.2.2 Automatic Marks?

Our Pressmen keep complaining that they are missing a mark on the plates they are getting. But every pressman is different is there a way to have Preps throw the same marks on every template? If anyone has a way let me know.

Thanks in advance

Joe

Hilight all the pages and select "Add Marks" is what I use in preps which is bundled with Apogee and never had a problem. You do mean crop marks? Because you have center marks, color ID, color bars etc. Could it be that the sheet size is too small for the 1/8" gapped crop marks? If so make the crop marks 1/16" to fit. It could be that some of the marks are underneath colorbars or IDs?

They complain that they want color bars and registration marks on all of the jobs. Is there a way to have Preps automatically add those on to the templates, besides placing them individually. Right now, as I make templates I have to place every reistration mark by itself. Also we add the slug lines and plate identifiers to all templates manually in preps as well. I was wondering if there was a way to set it up to drop that stuff in automatically.

THanks

If you are making a custom template each time, no. If for example you use a 16pg SW 4/c many times a year, save it and use when needed.
I have about 200 different templates. I pull up a template given the type of job. Also, what I do is when making a custom template I'll grab a premade template that is similar to what I need like color bars, reg marks etc and only change a few things and that's it. If you keep your templates organized you should in no time bang out impositions that would make everyone happy!

That is what I currently have setup right now is a similar template basis and then build from there. I can put a template out in no time and have it to proof, but some of the setting on our systems drop parts of it and I was just wondering if there was a way to setup where each one landed consistently. To me it sounds like I'm doing the most common way.

Thanks

Our workflows are different. If something in your system is dropping elements off the plate I do not have an answer for that. Maybe someone will chime in.

We are running Rampage 9.4 and some of the time the plate names will show up, but if they are too far one way then they will get dropped and not even print what is showing. But you have helped in the fact that you are making templates thge same way that I am and that there isn't something I'm over looking to automatically place all the same marks on the templates.

Thanks

Do you output Hires colorproofs from 1bit tiffs? Do you use those same 1bit tiffs to generate film or plates or both? If so does your colorproofs indicate missing elements as you described?

There is no way to automate this in 4.2.x and from my understanding 5.x either... I have the same issue with my pressmen, they gripe when they have a colorbar on a job thats not CMYK or 2 color and they gripe when they run a 4c because they marks aren't close enough to cutmarks or then they want it on the edge of the bleed.

It is my understanding that HDM's newest bersion Signastation is the only imposition software that automates and simplifies marks. Prehaps prepressvee or one of the other signa users could give us some input.

I did some reading last night and I believe there are actually automated marks in Preps 5.x, but I'm not sure which ones they are. Does any body know which marks are the smartmarks and how automated are they? any input is wanted cause that may be a possible upgrade with other features in 5.x.

TIA

Joe
