Preps 4.2 Device Setting

We've got an issue with our HDM SpeedMaster 52 having inconsistencies with gripper margin. I did not set the page size setting for the positioning of the image. We do not have this issue with page size setup for our Komori Sprint-26 (I also did not set this one up) or our HDM Printmaster QM46 (I did the QM46).

I have no formal Preps training, self-taught. I don't understand why but we have 3 devices for the SM52, and I assume an Agfa tech set it up when the Phoenix CtF was new and installed with Preps. I have device setting for DIP, SM10x13 (which is used for any presssheet size 10x13 or smaller) and SM18x20 (which is used for any presssheet size larger than 10x13). We only use one metal plate size for the press and my understanding is that we always have done it like this. The only reasoning I can come up with is that it was setup this way was to save flim. This is the shop's angry pressmen, that guy who says prepress screwed it up no matter what the problem is.

I've been given the task of solving this "problem" (if there is a problem) before leaving the shop for college in two weeks.

So what you are saying is there is an inconsistancy even though you are using the same device under Device Setup? I only use one device setup, it is called Xitron, which is the name of my workflow, I choose Xitron under Device Setup, then click Device Configuration, that is where I change my page size, (Speedmaster, Hantscho, Mercury, etc...). Maybe since there are 3 devices for one press, a different one is being chosen each time.

The Device Setup and Device Configuration should reference the media, (Plate size, Film size) that is loaded into the imaging device, you should dictate stripping setback by setting the "Press sheet edge to punch center" under the "Signature Information" for each template, this is also where you should put in the sheet size and you should position pages to accomodate gripper when you create imposition.
