Preps not Previewing...

I am trying to learn Preps. We are using Preps 4.1 Plus. In the workbook it states that you can preview the actual riped pages to see how they look layed out on the template. When i'm in the preview window all I get is what seems to be the empty template with the numbers on it. I made sure that I clicked on the signature before going into the preview window. Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance...

Within the Preview page that you're seeing is another Preview button on the upper right of the screen (I think it says Preview - not near my Preps machine at this time). Click this button and it will generate an actual preview (be warned - this is a slow process!)

You can speed up the painting of the previews by going into the rip portion of Preps and increasing the memory allotment.

You will find a folder called "Rip" inside the Preps folder in your hard drive. Do a get info on the Rip file and you can increase the memory portion. I increase mine to 90,000 k, and it is noticeably faster than the default setting.

Tried changing the memory up to 120,000, and there's no difference in the preview time at all.

I tried it in regular preview with a large file (55 M pdf/24.1M ps file) and changing the memory had no change at all. 35 seconds to preview either way (30,000 and 120,000).

Then I tried it with the signature preview, and zero difference in time between 30,000 and 120,000.

Any clues?

Are you relaunching Preps after changing the memory requirements?

Ive tried changing my memory to 150 megs relaunched preps and files dont rip or preview any faster either. Even restarted my computer. Im dealing with 75 to 200 meg .ps files in a 8-up layout, so if someone knows what i might be doing wrong please fill me in. This could save a ton of time.
Thanks

Yes, I guess it's not obvious to everyone, but of course I shut down the program before changing the memory and restarted Preps each time before reloading job. Anything else?

Suggestion: try it on a machine in front of you before you post it to be sure, people are looking for real answers here. Thanks.

I always ask the "obvious" questions first, as there is no way to know the technical skill level or experience of the person with the problem. Chill out, it's not like I asked if the computer was plugged in!
