Variables in the Flat identifier

Different ?variables? are used in Preps to identify our plates with forms numbers and side A and B. i am trying to figure out how to make a variable that with tag my file with a front and back rather than a A and B. Any ideas?

I guess the only obvious one is to put a tag on the front that says "front" and make that tag only appear on the front. Then duplicate the tag, make it say "back" and then make that tag appear only on the back.

I've asked about something like this before and it was mentioned that you would probably need to have a special script written for Preps.

Curious if others have any other opinions and fixes for this.

Your question reminding me of the time we first went CTP and starting using Preps. We saw that Preps had these cool variables and started using the one that identified the front and back as A & B. One pressman had a fit. "How do I know which plates are the front and which are the back?" I explained to him that A would be front plates and B would be back. He replied that that would be too confusing and went off to complain to his manager. The next day we were told by ouir manager that all plates must be identified with FRONT and BACK. We did exactly what JoePixel suggested. By the way that pressman is now a supervisor (crap does float to the surface).

I help out our pressmen here by putting "Side" before the A and B.

For example: 12345 Customer Name Form $sig Side $side.

Comes out on the plate with "12345 Customer Name Form 1 Side A"

If they can't figure that out, then they shouldn't be allowed to be pressmen, but that is another story for another day.

I also put all the text ID's in the lower left hand corner of the front side. Therefore if they see a text ID on the bottom right hand corner, then they should be able to rememeber that it is the back side.

Sorry to here that your pressroom manager couldn't comprehend that there jv58.
