WOW! I had no idea these forums existed.

Cool concept.

Anyway, just set up our new g5's with preps 5.0.1

When I print a job to our rip, the file name comes in as something totally different than what I named it. Anyone know of any solutions to this problem?

Which RIP are you using?

There is an update to take you to Preps 5.1.1

How are you printing from Preps? Using any split signature?

I looked into installing 5.1.1 but the Creo web site states:

Install Preps 5.1.1 if you need to run Preps in Italian, Japanese, or Simplified Chinese (Preps now supports seven languages), or if you must import JDF data from an MIS or Synapse? UpFront? 3.1 system. If you do not require these features, we recommend that you run Preps 5.0.3.

So why do they not recommend the update unless you need one of the qabove feeatures?

We are using Nexus 8.

The files are coming in as PAP.tif

the tif files work just fine. But you cannot send more than one job at a time or it will just keep writing the files over themselves. It is not the nexus workflows, because they work just fine on our old system. Something with Preps 5. It is (for some odd reason) a demo version of the software. If I had to guess, I would say that not all features on this demo are functional?

I found out it is a fully functional demo until we get a new dongle.

What print settings are you using in Preps? We just installed Preps too but we still are using Nexus 7.5 rev 10 for production purposes and we're not having that problem. In the settings we set it to print "Host based" rather than "In-Rip" which causes strange things to happen. I started up Nexus 8 last night to try Preps and I didn't have the problem there either. Have you checked the naming template for the seps inside of the workflow?

We had the same problem, but it turned out it wasn't a Preps issue. The names were being changed at our Xitron RIP. We know this because we have two RIPS ? one for film and one for computer-to-plate. The same files ended up with different names after RIPPING because they had different settings. Changing them solved the problem.

8O I just started using OSX and am waiting to get Preps 5.0 but am concerned about any problems considering the fact that the dongle for 4.0 has to be returned. In the meantime I am using another mac with OS 9.2 just for Preps. We use Preps along with Rampage 9.4. Anybody having any problems or any advice?? Thanks M. :0)
