Force LW on PSM or Brisque

I have a job with several Illustrator EPS files containing small gradients placed in Quark, and I don't want the gradients to rip into CTs so I can trap it more accurately.

Has anyone ever had success forcing gradients created in Illustrator to rip as LW, instead of CT? I've experimented with all the Vignette to CT settings and thresholds and can't get what I'm after. They just always go to CT.

***Edit begins here***

I did a little more testing, and it seems that gradients will rip as LW if they are set to overprint in Illustrator and saved as version 8 Level 2 EPS. They actually won't overprint unless PS Overprint is turned on at the PSM, which is good because I don't want them to.

Any other thoughts are appreciated.

Dan, yes it can be done. I know I've done it before. It's just been so long since I've done it that I can't remember. But I know it can be done on PS/M and Brisque.

Yeah, I think I've had to mess with different Illustrator versions to get it to work for me before.

Did you have smooth shading options off like smooth vignettes and convert to PS3?

Send me a file as I have Brisque 3 extreme here so I can switch back and forth between PSL2 and L3.
In L2 vignettes rip fine to LW unless you use Scitex extension in Quark which forces them to CT.

I am really interested if someone has solution on Br4 and higher as sometimes this is my last resort when I have to rip them to LW.

We have both BR3 and 4 but shortly we will be moving to Br5 and we won't have Br3 at our disposal any more

Yeah, I turned all that off but it still rips to CT on the PSM.

I actually spoke a little prematurely when I included Brisque as not doing it, either. I ripped it on the Brisque and it did what I want it to, so thanks everyone! (I usually rip on PSM - just use the Brisque to drive the Lotem platesetter, and rip the occasional trouble file.)
