PXT extension not saving file with fonts
Just got a new G5 and moved Quark 6.5 over from my G4. Now I left Trapwise on the G4 so I could trap my files there by sending from the G5 via file sharing. Problem is PXT extension is not saving fonts with the postscript file. Anyone got a clue as to whats up? I distilled as a PDF and that worked but I'd rather stick with the .ps than a PDF.

JIC anyone has this issue word from Creo is Quark 6.5 broke the extension. No word on when it will be updated for 6.5 compatibility.

If anyone is still running Trapwise and Quack 6.5 Creo/Kodak has just listed a new PXT extension, it's v4.5 on the Preps download page.

Sweet! The place I just went to work for is using a painstaking workaround to get files out of Quack 6 into Preps, ah - 4.2 I think is the version.
Week #2 on the new job & PPF makes me look smarter than I actually am! 8)

What kind of workaround? I've never had to use PXT to get Q6 files into Preps 4.2! In fact, I hardly ever use PXT at all, in any version. Just occassionally in Windows for a particular job.

What do you do D Curry export to PDF? That was the work around for me. The problem with that was Quack colorized tifs converted to CMYK and it was just more work to write a ps file then distill to PDF. The extension is a one step process that works 99% of the time and tells you what issues you may have when it saves the ps file.

No, I've seen the direct export to PDF do some bad stuff before, so I stay away from that. I just print to a postscript file using a Creo PSM7 PPD, and drop the postscript into the Preps run list. If the postscript file is enormous (more than 400mb), I'll distill it into a PDF and drop that into Preps.
PXT always seems to make larger postscripts, and I don't like that I can't specify Composite CMYK or DeviceN. Anyone know what it uses? I only use DeviceN for spot color jobs, and even then it doesn't thrill me because it takes away black overprints, so I wouldn't want to use it on process jobs.

It must be your ppd that strips out the overprint. I use DeviceN (Quark 6 & 6.5) with our Xitron ppd and have no problems with black overprint not working.

PXT must use deviceN or a variant of it because Quack colorized tifs don't convert to cmyk if I use it. I do know it writes a device independent postscript file and thats what Trapwise needs. I can write one directly from InDesign but Quack always required this extension. I even tried to find the PPD file that InDesign uses to write the file but never could find it. I never had any luck with downloading the Creo PSM7 PPD because of the way Creo likes to hide downloads, but I did try an older Scenicsoft PPD but it wouldn't work with Trapwise. If it weren't for trying to help someone that was having issues downloading the Preps update I never would have seen this extension update, it's still not posted on the Trapwise page. I really miss ScenicSoft and their great customer service.

Quack 6.1 --> PS --> PDF --> Import to InDesign --> PS Out --> Trapwise --> Preps. :?
Don't ask, it's only my second full week here. I'll get to the bottom of it though, any shorter route can only be good!
