Yesterday here at work a brand new dual 2 gig G5 running OSX with preps 5 was brought into the work area. Today it's back in another office after a very poor showing.

Firstly Preps 5 refused to recognise any of the templates created under 4.2 and while trying to create a new template the application would quit/crash. Basically a disaster. Does anybody here have any ideas as to why preps 5 performed so badly? Is there going to be an issue with our preps 4.2 templates - do we have to dump them and remake them with 5? Also as we are running a Brisque 4 will this create problems or should that be compatable?

I was looking forward to the upgrade and am somewhat disappointed.

I've be following a thread on the Creo Brisque mail list that talks about a the Latest Java Update and Preps 5 not getting along. I believe Creo has a fix. We haven't installed Preps 5 yet, got to get a few new Macs. As for the templates I haven't heard anything about that.

I too have heard about the conflict with the update of Java and passed it on to the right people before preps 5 even arrived - but it looks like the update is a few months away yet so we'll have a couple of G5's sitting around not doing much. As it is preps 4.2 works fine even if we don't have the mac interface that 5 supposedly has we still get the work out.

Did you try to use the migration utilty when you installed preps?

Wow...That's odd.
We're not having any issues with Preps 5. We've been importing templates from Preps 3.5 without a problem. Even old preps jobs are being updated easily. We do have a problem with it crashing if you select an item and then try and zoom in on that item. If you deselect and then zoom in it works fine. This is while building templates. We have it running on a 1.0 ghz eMac running OS 10.3.5, with, unfortunately, the Java Update. Creo didn't warn us on time, but even so, it doesn't seem to be an issue with Preps. We had to find a workaround on Java for Brisque 5 client, but the Java update doesn't seem to bother Preps.
