Retain art in same place when resizing the document

I was so used to using Quark till Quack 7 came out (we all use ID now).

Only real pProgram feature I miss is that Quark would leave my art in place (ie 1"/1") - so stepping out the files was easy.

ID can not (?) leave the art in place, again say (1"/1"), it will move the art and recenter it in the new document size.

No big deal if it's one page, but when I am stepping out multi-pages, it's a pain.

We figured out that we could cheat using bleed size to keep the art at the same place and then step out the file.

We also do a lot of remakes where registration is crucial - so art moving is not a good thing.

Anyone see something I am missing to achieve this.

Go to:

Layout > Layout Adjustment

Then click "enable layout adjustment"

It should preserve your upper left orientation when changing your document size.

Your artwork isn't really moving -- your page is expanding or contracting from the center, as opposed to how Quark does it which is to add or subtract from the page's right and bottom. Simple math should help you out - if you add an inch to the page width, then you are really adding 1/2" to the left and 1/2" to the right of the page, so to keep everything in position relative to the top left corner, just Select All and move left 1/2".

Thanks for the reply

Thanks for the reply, but I do not want to move my artwork. I just want to increase the document size and leave my art/marks. etc at 1"/1". When our oneup proofs are approved (at 5 pm lol), I just want to step it out and go.

Enable layout adjustent does not work.

I understand that you don't "want" to move your artwork - the reality is that you will need to in order to accomplish your goal of having it positioned at 1"X and 1"Y.

Maybe there is a plug-in to do what you want. There's one called Page Control that allows multiple page sizes among other page features - not sure if it will do what you want, but it's a free demo for you to download and find out.
