We're having some CS3 issues too (w/ Prinergy)
the exported PDF will hang in Refine (the Trap processor hangs or corrupts or both) and we had to go back to CS2 on a couple of jobs. Kodak said to use a different rip setting (PDF Print Engine instead of CPS1) and it did help, but not everyone has this option in their workflow, including Brisque unfortunately. We're getting by I guess, one way or another.

PS trouble

Found the same problem today postscripting to ONYX rip.
Regardless of the driver used including distiller, the same problem recurrs.

My workaround solution is to use device independent PS which is not perfect as it removes too many options, but it gets the job through.

As to creating pdf, it may work, but for me, I want the simple robust reliable elegance of CS2 back...

We've had to start processing a repeat incoming job in CS3 since they upgraded a few weeks ago. Had an unexpected dropout of an image, even though we've been processing CS2 stuff WITHOUT incident on our new, [Dec'06] Fuji Celebrant RIP.
Route is Indy CS3 .ps>PREPS 5.2.1>Celebrant. Image knocks out OK, [white hole], but no image. It's a TIFF. All knockout/OP settings correct on backtracking. The distilled file of the PREPS .ps shows all OK on Output Preview in Acro 7. Anyone had similar?

Frailer,

You describe exactly the problem I have had with CS3. I wish I know the solution is! I hope there is one soon.

Okay, if "The distilled file of the PREPS .ps shows all OK on Output Preview in Acro 7" wouldn't that mean the PS file from CS3 is okay? And then wouldn't that point to Preps being the culprit? Do you have the latest version of Preps which is 5.3?

With the same problem occuring on many rips which previously ran perfect with CS2 - points directly at CS3 being the culprit.

UPDATE: Illustrator CS3 is presenting the same problem except instead of imaging the first few inches of the page it images the last few inches.

Device independant didn't fix this one, had to distill the postscript and rip the PDF.
The same file ran a week ago perfectly from CS2

Red face

Yeah, well, Joe, was back-tracking this...someone elses job...but when I start playing around with it it's ugly from the .ps/PDF Export from Indy CS3 stage.

Sorry about that. The person who supplies the job is notoriously flaky in the stuff she sends, but CS3 seems to have given her new pastures with this one.
A .ps file will give the "white-hole-where-TIFF-should-be" result.
An Exported PDF to Press Quality will give an OK looking PDF, but the RIP now prints the TIFF, but SITTING IN A WHITE BOX. Unfortunately the Fuji apps person is on leave, but may pursue other lines of enquiry. Don't really want to start tinkering with the RIP, cos it's been pretty bullet-proof for 8 months. Gut level feeling says it's something to do with Indy, combined with supplying person's dodgy file.
cjwworld, post here if you get any insights.
Investigations continue.

D-Oh! forgot. This is sending directly to RIP. Leaves PREPS out of the frame with these tests.
