There are various routes in the "re-fries" listed above. Seem to recall I got around a similar one by: 1. New page in Indy. 2. Place the said offending PDF in a Frame. 4. Save. 5. Postscript the page via the Print Dialogue Box, paying special attention to the options, e.g. font downloading. You will Distill this .ps to have a look at it anyway, but you might be better off using the .ps into PREPS, [assuming PS in> PS out]. It's amazing how a .ps print can stabilize an errant PDF sometimes.
Or you could try using the resulting PDF in a PDF in> PDF out flow.

Hi all,

I am also interested in workarounds for this... where I work we have an offsite submission for students/tutors called DocWorks. You can submit a PDF or print directly from any app and then we are supposed to produce the job on site. Only prob is at submission time you can choose to view a preview, which always looks fine, but the printed copy will have boxes throughout the text.Happens on about 2% of jobs. I've already argued with management over this as there's an option in the submission software to OK the display proof and go straight to print, which obviously doesn't always work! Which means we are at fault! Any suggestions??

Cheers, Tony

I'm guessing your "preview" is a pre-RIP'd one. Hence your 2% slipping through. The only way around this is to have some way of PDFing your PIP'd [1-bit TIFF], file. We are able to do this with the res'd Black Magic proofing file, which DOES have RIP integrity. However, they are too big to be useful. The Fuji/Black Magic tech suggested saving as a PostScrpt file from BMag, then Distilling that for smallest file size, [web view]. Haven't properly run this yet, but intend to.
Trouble is, this is system-specific, and I'm not familiar with yours.
We do do some soft/PDF proofing, but it's an imposed PDF, pre-RIP;...and there's always that risk of problems like the one in this thread popping up unannounced...
