Problem in DDAP PPD - postscripting file!

Hi guys,

problem here with setting up Print preset in Indesign.

Why can't I see DDAPv3 PPD in the PPD selections when i'm trying to Postscript a file.

It only shows Device Independent as the only option. I'm 100% sure I've loaded in the right place library/printers/PPDs/contents/resources/en.lproj.

It's kinda weird since before I've loaded the DDAp ppd i can select many other PPDs when postscripting a file. But then after I put the DDAP PPD file it now only shows Device Independent for a selection.

Please help,

Thnx in adv. ;-)

have you loaded the printer properly in the printer list? <printer set up utility>

if it's not there, it might not show correctly

check that out first. secondly, i had an issue with my DDP cromalin ppd from du-pont, and they had to re-supply a working osx one, as the one with the software was strangely NOT an osx recognisable ppd - so make sure its a good ppd as well

good luck

There's no need to use the DDAP PPD any more. Just use Distillers PPD.

The whole point of the DDAP PPD was to have a PPD with as little information about device specific features as possible. It was useful, but really not that necessary in reality. Distiller ignores much of what's in a PPD anyways because those kinds of features cannot be accessed by Distiller.

Thnx beermonster and mattbeals for ur replies.

But i'm really getting mad already with these PPD and postscripting thing.

See i've deleted all DDAP PPD files in our 2 macs and still the problem persist. I can't select anything but that damn Device Indepedent in the PPD list.

I have three printers in my printer list .. hp, lexmark and OKI printer.

Please i need your help/guide... am i missing something here?

I want to postscript the our files before distilling it as I know it is the wise and best thing to do.

But if i can't get things done I guess i might resolve to exporting it to eps :-(

You don't need device dependent PostScript if you are going to Distiller. If you are printing PostScript to feed to a particular printer why can't you just use Print Center to setup a printer? The idea of device dependent PostScript is almost completely useless. There still are some reasons to use device dependent PostScript, but there aren't many.

And it is not the "best" or "wisest" way to make PDF's. It is more correct to export a PDF.
