yeah - i'll not pre-order just yet......

the blurb makes it look wonderful....how many times do we hear that!

since it seems most of their software is pdf to something microsoft i'm not holding my breath on this, but like you say, hopefully there's a demo and we can chuck some evil pdf's at it and see how much sticks

then just go back to using illustrator to open ALL pdf's (just kidding just kidding!!!!)

To get the demo you need to pre-order.

I just got a response about this and thought I'd share.. includes price..

Quote:
We're only accepting advance orders from corporate customers to provide them
with an early release of PDF2ID. Not to the general public (i.e. End-user).
The price is US$249.00

We've demo'd the tool at -

MacWorld SF 2007 in January
Cre8/PDF Conference in May
InDesign Conference in NY in June

We're also very much in constant touch with Adobe with respect to the tool
and lead InDesign guru's. For further "external" testimonial please visit -

http://indesignsecrets.com/pdf-to-indesign-i-have-seen-the-future.php

So we've already shown the product around for quite some time. We've worked
with external groups in assuring the conversion capability.

And when the product ships to the general public a "trial" version which has
the following limitations will be available -

A. Up to 1st 10 pages converted
B. All images are downsampled to 72dpi
C. Every other character is a random-text character
D. Expires after 14 days

Regards -

I e-mailed them also. didn't realize 43 got a response

But while strolling through the web site I did have an interest in this item
http://www.recosoft.com/products/vinc/index.htm

How many times have you had someone send you a file or you sent a file to someone who said "I can't open this on my machine…"

I must say though, that after seeing the quote that 43 posted, reading between the lines looks as though this company is very very arrogant

I'd pre-order if the price was around $129 but $249 is a bit steep for an independent like myself.

Got almost the identical response as 43

Hi Marc -

comments =
will a demo version of the PDF2ID be offered?
and at what price will the software be offered? (USD)
Thank You
M*** L****
Company Name
NY, USA

The trial version of PDF2ID will only be available after we ship in
September. There is no trial version that is going to be available before
September. Now, the Trial version has many many limitations -

A. Up to 1st 10 pages converted
B. All images are downsampled to 72dpi
C. Every other character is a random-text character
D. Expires after 14 days
E. Only 10 conversions allowed
F. And Many More Restrictions

We've exhibited at the following shows -

MacWorld 2007 San Francisco
CRE8/PDF Conference May 2007 - Orlando
InDesign Conference - June - New York

So, we're very confident of our solution and we are also in constant touch
with Adobe. Please note, we may at the end decide not to offer a trial
version that even converts 10 pages. We may restrict it to just 1 page.

If you would like to make an Advance Order of PDF2ID, let us know and we
will put your name on the list.

The cost of PDF2ID per license is US$249.00

Still I hope it's as good as they say. As an independent and not having PitStop (current version 7.2 for $699 USDUSD) $249 may be the way to go. Once converted using Illustrator to modify vector art and Photoshop to correct raster art and place in a page layout like InDesign would be a no brainer
