Indesign Re-Link problem

Anybody ever seen any of the Indesign versions "Relink" to incorrect files?

I am relinking to a file and it keeps bringing in a totally different file. If I go to Place and manually place the file it brings the correct file in.

Is this just a delete the preference file type issue? or do I sound off my rocker?

The version Im having this with currently is IndyCS 1..

How are you re-linking?
Are you navigating to the correct file and it puts something different in it's place or are you doing it the automatic way and it links by itself to a file without a visual?

Sorry, I no longer have that version of ID, just CS2 and CS3, so I can't test it for you.
Memory is fading on how CS worked with links.

is it time for my nap?...

manually navigating to the file and choosing and then it brings in a different file.. Im baffled.

I havent deleted the pref file yet.. still trying to find why it is doing this.. its just the one file, and it brings in the same wrong file every time.. so Im trying to find why these two files are "cross communicating" for a lack of better words... the files names are NOT similar at all.

FWIW: I am upgrading to CS3 soon.. just waiting on bossman. Im only still using CS1 because it has been easier than converting all my templates up to CS2 for all of about 6 months, so I waited it out to upgrade the templates to CS3, instead of updating twice...

have you opened the placed file in the originating app (Illy or Pshop) to see if the file has a corrupted preview maybe?

maybe try a "save as" on it and then see if it comes in correctly.

step away from the keyboard...

you may have just entered the

Twilight Zone!!!

do not attempt to adjust your set...

on a more serious note,
toss your prefs (put them on your desktop just in case) and restart the app

good luck!
