InDesign smooth shading pattern

Anyone having trouble with a "Smooth Shading Pattern" in Indesign? (this is what pitstop calls it).

It's a part in this particular document that puts a gradient on a stroke.

I also had a problem yesterday with this type of thing where someone put a gradient in a font. Not a font converted to outline...but an actual font that became embedded.

We didn't know there was a problem until the film was made....the letter that had the gradient came out 1/2 ok, and the other half turned to grayscale. I knew how to fix these things ahead of time if I have the native files..etc., but had nothing but a pdf. It looked ok on screen (of course).

Is there anything in Indesign like expand appearance....change stroke to outline..that kind of thing??

Anyone else had this problem?

Okay, I'm getting anoying here answering my own questions but I'm not too busy at work right now and trying to learn on my own...

I checked off the "convert strokes to outlines" before saving the pages as eps's in Indesign then distilling...

The stroke with a gradient in it printed fine.

As far as the letter with a gradient in it....I would just convert the letter to outlines if I had the native file.

And the journey continues.........................
