Huge eps link in Indy
Incoming ad. Should be no-brainer. Indy, single page A4, 3 links. Good to go to PostScript or PDF. But one of the linked supporting files [full bleed background] is a 405Mb. eps. I guess an all-purpose image, from billboard size down. Is there a way of downsizing it beforehand? Or do I have to live with it? I understand the finished file size will shrink, particularly the PDF. But who needs a 0.4 Gig eps to have to archive anyway? If it was a tiff or jpeg, it could be dealt with. Just my inexperience with Illy eps's, I guess.

I'll bet its a huge Photoshop file imported into Illy. A full bleed background that size in Illy would rarely get to 400mbs. Open it in Illy and see what it actually is. Does it have a bounding box?

Better [quieter] chance to have a look this AM. Yep, a PhSh. eps. In Illy, [opened after much laborious parsing; about a minute], it has a an edge-to-edge size of 580mmx770mm. "Page" size, [centre of image], as used for the Indy link is 210x297, [+ bleed, of course].
But, PostScript printed from Indy was 314Mb. This, then Distilled through our HiQual setting for print, came down to 7Mb. As an exercise only, I refried this PDF out of Acrobat, and the resulting Postscript was till 7Mb. I don't think the latter 2 files would be any less legit to use through PREPS>FujiCelebrant RIP, would they? 7Mb sure beats 314Mb. Our RIP is only 6 months old, and very PDF-friendly.
Appreciate your thoughts.

LOL, Betcha it came from an ad agency too, and if you look on the workslip it came with they charged the client at least 1K(a).

you should be good imo. creating the pdf I "think" would have cropped it, resampled it depending on your settings and the diference of the original, as well as applied some compression. you may wanna double check those settings(resolution, compression quality etc) just to make sure.
I have also had luck just rasterizing the Ill eps in photoshop at 300-400ppi, and sometimes I haven't

Had a chance to do an Export to PDF from Indy, rather than PScript/Distill. Ended up with a 14 Mb. PDF. bigger, but a "better" PDF, I suspect. Shall have another stroll through those settings for Export. May need some tweaking.
