Frankly, the only reason I even installed 10.4 was so we could run CS3.
If it wasn't for that - I'd probably stay at 10.3.9 for a while longer.
I have ZERO customers using Quack 7, so the 10.4 OS is only needed for the Adobe apps. Several called about Q7, I suggested they buy more RAM w/ the budget money so INDD would run faster.
Apparently, they all listened!

crap, now I need to reinstall the OS, then of course update all the other stuff that goes with it.
guess I didn't do my homework before someone told me to get the stuff.
 ops:
I just don't remember seeing anywhere that you had to have that much ram and a specific OS.
gotta love it, Adobe must have a piece of the other pies...

ARRRRRRRRRRRRGH...I was hoping to avoid Tiger on most of our production Macs and go straight to Leopard when it comes out. Thanks to Apple for delaying Leopard for the stupid iPhone it looks like that plan isn't going to work! :x

I by no means am suggesting you follow suit "ala vee", but I was hanging out at my Apple Techs shop the other day talking about that..
He said
1) Leopard is *really* optimized for the Intel.. if it aint Intel, don't rush out to load the new OS!
2) Also, (as always) he suggested DO NOT HURRY! Yes, it's exciting, but give it some time.. DO NOT LOAD ON PRODUCTION MACHINES - YOU WILL BE SORRY.
That's just what he told me. He could be right or wrong.
But he's never given me ANY bad advice over the past 8 or 9 years.
Ever.
I was excited as could be, until I talked to him about it. I'm going to wait until several dot updates are out, and then load it on my laptop (non production) first. After I get comfy w/ that. I'll consider loading it on a workstation. I tend to hold off until some great new app forces me to change OS.
my .02 for now....
Vee

Definitely good advice and that's pretty much how we've done it here. That's why most of our machines are still running Panther. The only machines we have running Tiger are newer machines that came with it. I just hate going out and buying copies of Tiger when the next version is coming out in a few months. I'd definitely wait for at least 10.5.1 before getting Leopard. We'll definitely be getting CS3 soon and have to get Quark 7 due to customers upgrading so it looks like we'll need Tiger soon.
Just a quick note to Apple. This will force me to NOT buy Leopard when you do get around to finishing it. Oh, and good luck with the iPhone too. [/AppleAnnoyance]

Yea... I hear ya Joe.. your damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I see where you were going now - about getting Tiger shortly & then here comes 10.5 right behind your recent purchase. That always sucks.
.. and SCREW the iPhone!

I just installed CS3 and am already getting some weird things happening.
For example, in Photoshop CS3 the "convert to profile" option was not there in the edit menu. And when I tried to convert a grayscale to bitmap that option was not there either. I went back ot CS2...at least you can do that
There's been a couple with Acrobat and Illustrator too but right now I don't have time the give details.....

for pspdfppd:
...in cs3 some of the usual menu items are now hidden, look at the bottom of the menu items for the command 'show all menu items'...
...or get a workspace set up yourself or choose window > workspace > reset menus...

well i've gone and done it - ordered one new 10.4 for the g4 (3 g ram) and two cs3 design premium upgrades and 2 quack7 upgrades
will let ya know how it goes when it all arrives and i have a good run up at installing it all
mind you - there was trepidation upgrading to xpress 6 and i had few issues doing that....and i won £200 this morning on our company lottery - so maybe at long last the prepress gods are smiling at me

there are problems with CS3 when you already have CS2 installed. the problems come up when trying to print to the virtual PDF printer. the options for what output plan don't show up in the print dialog menu, and the printer crashes and stops when it trys to print the PDF.
i called adobe, and they basically told me to uninstall CS3 and reinstall it without CS2 on the computer.
i haven't had the time to mess with it yet.
this version seems very premature to me, and not well thought out. there are some nice things. but then, there's other things that just plain piss me off, like the fact that indesign stays on the object you just stepped and repeat.
oh well, i gues i'll just have to get use to it....
