InDesign CS2 manual imposition problem

We're running an EFI OneFlow system. Most impositioning in done inline, with the exception of jobs that we gang run different size documents on the same sheet. For those, we manually lay them up in InDesign CS2. Our sheet size is generally 25x19, with plates outputting on a DPX/4 platesetter. When we do that, the platesetter puts a hard line of no image, from gripper to tail, down one side of the plate. However, this does not happen when we do it in Quark. Also, the problem happens both from PC and Mac platforms. We've been making plates to narrow down and isolate the problem. We're pretty sure it's isolated to CS2. I'm downloading CS3 now, to see if it has been corrected, or if the problenm lies somewhere else.

Anybody else have any similar problems?

Fletch

I've done numerous press layouts in InDesign CS2 and never experienced the problem you are describing. Could be a problem with how your CTP RIP is interpreting the PS date from InDesign CS2 though. We are using a Navigator (Harlequin) RIP and printing to a Creo Trendsetter CTP. You might test the problem by printing to a Postcript file on your desktop and then opening that PS file in Acrobat and see if the line is in there. If it's not there, then you might be able to assume the problem lies in the RIP interpretation and not the output from CS2.

yep - and if you can do a roam on the rip and see if anything shows up there

we get a similar even running through a navigator to a Q2 output controller

the q2 recombines seperations into a pdf and we proof it - but we get the line down the left hand side - its wierd - but is of no importance to us as it is not on our plates - just the proofs.

i did ask an engineer once and he replied it was the software generating the postscript - but it does it with all apps so he said it was osx - but its only on our proof and not the ripped files etc - so i think its q2 adding something - why i dont know

make sure your rip set up is up to date - sorry - little help

Update.

Well, I loaded CS3 and received the same result. In response to the replies, we do have the ability to look at our plates on screen (dot-for-dot). Interestingly, the line does not show up there. It's happening at the platesetter, which is a simple Tiff catcher.

The whole thing's hurting my brain.
