Object Layer Options

Hello,

I'm looking for help regarding a "flaw" in InDesign's Object Layer Options.

This feature sounds perfect for situations I encounter at work; repeatedly used images with variable elements. However adding, removing or renaming layers in the linked PSD reverts the appearance of the placed image to reflect layer visibilty as saved. This with "Keep Layer Visibility Overrides" activated. Since we routinely make changes to files, this is a frustrating pitfall.

My suspicion is there is no solution, besides manually resetting the visibility, but I thought I'd double-check here. Perhaps Adobe is addressing this with CS3?

Thanks

If I understand you correctly you could save the psd with different layer comps and choose which one to display as you import the image

Hmm...

Now there is a new problem!

InDesign crashes during the flattening (or immediately thereafter) whenever four or more placed images are utilizing the Object Layer Options feature.

Oddly enough, the prints are successful. Also, it doesn't crash when exporting a PDF. Nevertheless I can't "sell" the idea at work with this as a part of the process.

Is there a way around this? Flattener settings perhaps?

thanks.
