To Chey who just asked, it turned out that Joe's link was the lifesaver.
I had to completely remove the entire Creative Suite 2 in order to get rid of InDesign for a reinstall (Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat had to be dumped as well).
The fix was in an Adobe checklist posted at
http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?...61115001306195 (you have to scroll down to the bottom paragraph "Re-install" and click on "manually remove InDesign". For some reason I can't get the Adobe Tech Note URL to work without coming at it through the MacFixit article link). Be methodical - every file listed must be hunted down and trashed. Once that was done I reinstalled the whole Creative Suite 2 and updates. InDesign has run perfectly ever since.
Apparently, the problem occurs when you perform a system migration from a PowerPC to an Intel Mac. I wish Adobe had directed me to that link when I asked. Glad I found you guys - especially you, Joe. Thanks again..
