Indesign Spot Color Output

When outputting spot color jobs as composite to imagessetter, all tints
print solid. if output as separations tints are OK?

Any suggestions?

Having no idea what operating system your using or what version of InDesign or even what Image-setter and rip I'd say use separation and forget about sending as composite.

Thanks, for responding.

Im running MAC OSXv10.4.4, In-Design CS2 sending files to Dolev with

PSM5.

Could send separations, but can't use in-rip trapping with

separated files.

Been a few years since I've used PSM 5 (I thought I was out of date with PSM 7, but as long as it works, right?) I would try making sure Postscript Overprint is enabled. If that doesn't work, is there a Merge option on that version of PSM? Mine has it, and it takes a separated job and merges it into a composite so you can then use Full Auto Frames to trap it, or use InDesign's trapping engine to create the traps as it prints. I've not used it because I use FAF for all trapping, but everyone says it traps well.

Another option would be to use the Ink Manager in InDesign to alias each of the PMS colors into one of the process colors and see if that works.

Use InDesign's trapping engine. It works really well, though making zonal traps
is sort of a PITA. Another option would be to Print to File using the Adobe PDF PPD.
This will allow you to print a comp, and if you select In-RIP Seperations you'll end
up with a trapped PDF comp. Using this method could allow for zonal traps if you
adjust you Trap Presets, crop out areas and rebuild them in a new layout using the
trapped results. A PITA, but it'll work. Anyway, then I'd place the trapped PDF back into
a new InDesign layout for imposition and rip seps.
All part of my ghetto workflow, but it's very effective for what we do 8)
