Change Paper size, but same position
Hi, Hopefully I can explain this right. Here is what I want to do. I have an 8.5 x 11 page. I create a box in this page. I position it on 0,0. Now I descided I want the page to be 11x17. When I change the page layout, my box does not stay on 0,0. It does do this in Quark, and would be helpful if there was a way to do this in Indesign CS2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Unless someone knows better, then you will have to select the object and type 0,0 into the Control Bar at the x,y coordinates

I think this is one of the differences in Quark and Indesign. When changing the size in Quark the element will stay put. Indesign will center the element instead.

I think it has more to do do with how the 2 programs add "canvas" - Quark adds to or subtracts from the top left corner, while InDesign works off of the center of the page when changing the page size.
I think it would be a nice feature for ID to let the user specify where to add the extra space - kinda like canvas size in Photoshop.

I could be misremembering, but can this be affected by changing the 'Origin' setting under Preferences->Units&Increments?

nope, doesnt work.. dont think Indesign can do this. I like DCurry's suggestion of user specified like Photoshop.

it places the middle of the box at 0,0 and not the top left corner so it depends on what your doing..

doesnt really specify what is trying to be accomplished, middle or top left corner of box at 0,0...

I believe that is in regard to whaehre the rulers start their increments - from the top left of the page, spread, or from the spine.
