MS Publisher files

I just received a MS publisher file and I am looking for a way to convert these to Indesign. Anyone know how to do this?

Why not just go File > Save as > PostScript.
Distill that bad boy and move on...

Just make a PDF of it and fix it in PitStop. I don't know of any program that will convert Publisher into some other format other than what a printer driver can do for you; PostScript or PDF.

Here is a link to the Adobe "Updated Converter for MS Publisher and QuarkXPress". Never used so I don't know how well it works but you can convert the Publisher file to PM and then open that with InDesign.

That's a scary thought, all those conversions??? Just make a PDF, it will be far easier.

Before postscripting, check the <Tools> -> Commercial Printing ->Color Printing. See how many colors they have and be VERY careful when you click Process Colors (CMYK) or Spot Color. You will get a warning - Publisher will change all the tints to solids!!! Beware because you CANNOT undo. So if there are tints, you may be better off letting Acrobat take care of the color converting.

When postscripting the Publisher file, use the print driver for your output device so you can get the resolution set properly.

Run thru Distiller (pdf/x-3) for process seems to work best for a Preps workflow...pdf/x-1a otherwise. If you can't get the file thru Distiller, it ain't gonna print!

And don't try going thru all the hoops of converters. Publisher (and MS Apps for that matter) seems to use its' own fonts that don't convert out of MS Apps.

Been there Done that.

So my mom is so exited, she called me and said she is going to start doing the news letter for her school and they even bought her publisher so she could send the files to the printer and look like a pro. I said ohh great mom, ill bet the printshop will be happy, have fun with that.
