EXPORTING FROM INDESIGN
hi guys
does anyone have or know of a fix for the problem bellow.
I open an old file and rename it
I want to export a file with the NEW file name not the OLD file name
with out manually having to rename it
this is from the ADOBE SUPPORT SITE
Name of an exported file becomes the default name for other exported files (InDesign CS and CS2)
Issue
After you export a file from Adobe InDesign CS or CS2 using a custom name, the custom name becomes the default name for subsequent files you export from the InDesign document and for new documents you create by choosing Save As in the original file.
Solution: Ensure that the desired file name is used each time you export from InDesign.
Background information
When you export an InDesign document, the file name you choose becomes the default export file name for that InDesign file until you export the file with a different name.
When you change the file name of the InDesign document, InDesign still uses the last exported file name as default until you export the file with a different file name.
The exported file name is stored within the source file and remains there even when you save the source file under a different name.

I believe that this means that is in the file, much like the print settings and is not changed until the file is saved again.

WTF???
This sounds like another handy "feature". Why would someone embed the orig. file name in the source code so that subsequent re-saves will not overwrite to the new file name.
friggen BS.
maybe start using Quark?
LOL
I'll play with it a bit and see if I can replicate it and maybe find out more.
Let you know.

It actually works out ok for me if I'm exporting for proofs, then make a change
and do it again. I use Default Folder so I don't even notice it that much any
more on the Mac. The PC works the same way though, and that feature cuts
both ways. I think I'd be just as happy if it wasn't included in the software.

Are you talking about opening an existing file that has a layout or set up that you want to use for another job?
If so why not open the "old" file the "Save As"?

If you're on a mac Papa, I can't get it to work. The only solution I can think of is slinging your Indy plist file, but that's gonna be a real PITA if you have to do it every time. You should be able to script it though.
Not a great solution, but I can't replicate your problem

Hi Guys
Heres the set up
this is our ad work flow
Advert is created in Indesign and saved in Ads folder with a URN 123456
Advert is then exported as PDF to be called int Page layouts.
this ok
Next week the customer has a change (eg small changes to car listings etc)
So we open up old URN Indesign file 123456, Save as new URN 123789, make changes, save, and then export to the PDF folder.
Its when we export file 123789 as a PDF, that it saves as 123456 -the old URN
