layers & groups

I'm working on a file with multiple layers, when I group elements from different layers - all those elments move to that layer that is marked in the layer pallet (which i'm workin on). I want to know if there's a tip/script/trickqtricky way to move back those elements from the other layers to their original layer they were before.I'm looking a for a tricky way & method other than manually.

You could copy each individual item and then paste them into a new layer, thus leaving the original items in place, obviously the location on the page would change but that's easy enough to fix

The way I move items from layer to layer is really easy.
First, select an item on a layer, notice that in the layers pallet there is a "dot" next to the layer name. Click once on the dot and drag it to whatever layer you want. It moves the item and retains the exact placement as before. If you want a copy of the selected item, hold down the option key and drag the dot to another layer.
This works in all versions of Illy and InDesign, too!
very easy and cool!

hope this helps,
David
