index question

I need to do an index for a book, with a list of about 3,000 terms. Is there a script that will enter them successively to the index, scan the whole document to do a search for each term, number, and location of the term that exists, and gather those details.
Does anybody know some tips for indexing.
THANKS!

Editor: Sparky - if I have totally misread this question I apologize, but this is what I understand it to say.

judging from the lack of responses, I'm guessing that the folks here don't do a lot of indexing (we don't, since most of our files are supplied to us).

You may have better luck on the Adobe forums.

Sorry, not much help,
David

HAHA!
thanks for the compliment.
I know when I know things, and I also know when I don't.
I like the old saying:
"it's better to keep your mouth closed and appear ignorant, than to open it and remove all doubt".

Around these here parts, we also have what's called "East Texas colloquialisms:
"he's a good 'ole boy, but he ain't worth a shit".

classic crap.

Indexing scripts

I use index entries extensively for our product catalog approaching 30,000 entries across 50 individual book sections. However our index entries are based on product features, manufacture, etc. so creating indexes based on occurrences of specific words is not practical for us at all.

This said I cant specifically say I know of a script to find & auto create index entries the way you want. However you can try this URL for applescripts that might work for you.

Hope this helps & best of luck with it.

Learn Excel or hire someone who knows it. Cheaper to learn it.

ah jeez... I just remembered. There is a product out there called sonar bookends which I believe comes in an indesign version. I think this will do what was asked for.
