crops appear again
Am cropping a PDF file (7.0 Professional) and placing into In Design CS. The crops and registrations come back. Any ideas?

I believe that cropping in Acrobat doesn't really delete the data outside the crop. It's still there, you just can't see it. You may try opening the PDF and saving as a .ps/.eps and re-distilling to really complete the crop and remove the extra data.
OR...
when placing the PDF into ID, just pull the picture box in to cover the crops and registration marks.
hope this helps,
David

Funny, because I don't see them when I place them into Quark - just ID.
What I started doing is deleting them from the PDF and resaving the file. This seems to work. Thanks.

yeah, Quark and ID are worlds apart. What happens in one doesn't mean the same thing will happen in the other.
Good luck,
David

You should also be able to choose Crop to crop (instead of crop to media) when placing the pdf in InDesign.

I have created a pitstop action list that I use to remove marks like this..... so now I just run it while preflighting in acro 7.... if you have pitstop, send me a PM with your email and I'll send you the .eal(action list file) for you to import into pitstop.

Thanks but I don't have pit stop. I use the preflight in Acrobat 7.

I see. Great program, try it out sometime with the free 30 day trial.
Well, I have posted the "remove crop marks" action list to MattBeals site --> -link- if anyone else wants it. It is stuffed so you'll need stuffit expander in OSX to unstuff. PM if you need it unstuffed or in a .zip file. Enjoy!

Setting a crop in Acrobat on a PDF, merely defines the cropbox information, it doesn't alter the media, trim, bleed or art boxes if present...
Enable Show import options in InDesign to determine what imageable area you'd like to place (If you don't want to enable this option permanently, hold down the SHIFT key when clicking open button instead, without enabling the setting in the Place dialog box).
This will alter the settings for all future PDFs until you change it again as far as I know, so you'd only have to alter it once if you're placing multiple PDFs
