Auto resizing of images in Indesign - it's called Sizewyse
Would anyone be interested in the following (OSX only until April '06):
When you place an image, or images inside InDesign, no matter what the size in pixel dimension, DPI or file format, software automatically goes out to Photoshop and resizes the pixel dimension, resamples the DPI and saves out as a native PSD file, and crops out excess image data (hidden by frame), and counter rotates the files, and much more. You can imagine that if you placed an image in a page at 7%, rotated it 3 degrees, that it would be a pretty big .ps file if there were several of these over a page, spread or long document. The sotware even resolves duplicate files and will not touch master/archive stock images if the images are in a directory that is listed as a protected directory.
It also has an option to remove all unused colours in the Indesign file, and from any placed Illustrator files, including converting all spots to process in InDesign and Illustrator, and even gives a message at the end of processing to let you know if there are RGB images placed.
We use this software on every single job we do (about 45,000 pages per year) and it saves us a truckload of time. We wrote the software, and it will be avilalbe for commecrial release in December. I would appreciate feedback on what this may be worth to companies who process truckloads of images, and how beneficial it would be.

Sounds intersting. We could use something like that. However, my concern would be the integrity of the ?software? in terms of being bug-free. Last thing we need would be to have our master images damaged. Not implying that your solution would cause havoc ? just pointing out my biggest concern.
I am interested as our department creates the marketing collateral and we have over 3,000 images that the designers actually link to the ?master? file. After we get final approval to priint the job, we go throguh ?manually? and resize and sharpen the images based upon the printing condition. Obviously, this can be time-consuming, nut the resulting qwuality is worth it. Anything that helps automate that task is worhty of some investigation.
How much? When is the release? Is this a plug-in? Script? Standalone?
Thanks,
David

Integrity of the software....?
We have been testing the software in live production for over 12 months with 21 prepress operators.
The software can be supplied as a plugin or as a standalone.
It has a feature that allows the user to redirect the repurposed file to a new directory if the images are from an active DAM (masters etc), and it also leaves files untouched if the reside in a directory with the word MASTER in the folder name.
The software is completely customisable as it is all hand coded by our script wizard, Simon. I cook up the ideas and he make shtem happen.
I will do the forum a deal. Come up with the best additional feature, which, if we incorporate into the final build, you will receive a free copy. Bear in mind that the software is a one computer license and it is smart enough to record the machine address, so it will not work on any other machine. If the machine dies, we reissue the software again.
Hear from you all soon.

adobewan... A demo would be nice. It's hard to come up with a great idea when
you've never seen the product. Simon should be able to whip a demo version out.

I agree to being able to see a demo and or get a "hands on" beta version for a limited time, to run on test images.
I noticed you can "re-direct" to the images to another folder if they came from a folder labeled "Master". I would be more interested in seeing this software have the ability to "re-name" the images as a .r , .r2, (for revised, or revised 2 etc.) in front of the extension i.e. "Original.eps" to "Original.r.eps" then "Original.r2.eps", and so on.
