"Import Failed"

Here's a new one.... client supplied 2 files, when I try to open them I get a dialog box that says "Import failed" .... what gives? I can even see the preview of what it's supposed to look like, but it just doesn't open.

Any ideas?

Tracy

Are you trying to open the files off of a CD? If so, copy them to your hard drive first and then open the file. InDesign wants to make a "temp" file and it can't do that on a locked volume like a CD.
If not, get info on the files and check the permissions to see if you have "read/write" ability.

Hope this helps,
David

PS. Here's a thread on the InDesign forum.

Thanks David, interesting read there.

Now I get the "Cannot Open File" dialog box that says "Cannot open __.indd. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign." So I guess it really is a version issue?

thanks again

From that message you are trying to open a CS2 file in CS.

Been there done that!
