five channels photoshop from Indesign

We got a 4 color job with a UV to do separation for .. the Designer did the UV in Photoshop as fifth channel and he do all other things ( text and layout ) in IDSC1 and some layouts in Illustrator CS .. when we send the file to our RIP ( HQ or Delta ) it will show lines on the film or plate .. when we make PDF file from it will not show the lines in PDF but it will show in our RIP or the film .. the only way it work with me is removing the fifth channel (UV) from Photoshop and save the file with 4 color ( channels ) then removing the 4 channels and save the UV channel only as another file .. no lines no problems at all.
I am posting this just in case some one faced the same problem in the future and to share it with our ppl here and get answers from expert who find another way than saving the file twice.
Thanks.

How are you saving the 5 channel photoshop file? If you make it a multichannel file and then save that 5 channel multichannel file out as a P'shop DCS 2.0 file then I've found that it works that way, but my RIP is a Creo Brisque RIP and may interpret files differently than your RIP.

It depends on what your RIP is. Can it handle the file, do you need to RIP it a specific way, can it handle the latest Mac softwares and so forth.

Each shop has different RIP technology, so if you post how you RIP the file then someone with that specific device should be able to give you info and how to handle that file.

thanks joe ..
I am saving the file the normal way 5 channel to DCS2 .. I think this is the only way to save the file as five color in Photoshop, correct me if I am worng ?
I dont know what do you mean by RIPing the file .. what i used to do with InDesign files is making PS file then distill it then send it to our RIP after checking the PDF file .. I hope that will help ..
thanks again ..

Is the fifth channel showing up in the InDesign color swatch pallet? If so, it has to be the way you are writing the postscript file, your Distiller settings or maybe the way you are saving the DCS2.0 file.

There are several ways to save a DCS2 file.

When saving the file, I use these settings that I have found that work for me:

Preview = Macintosh 8 bit/pixel
DCS = Single file with color composite
Encoding = Binary

The four boxes found near the bottom should be unchecked.

If you are saving out your DCS file with any other settings, then that could be your issue.

The setting for the DCS - Single file with color composite - that can be different for you, but that works best for me, and if that setting doesn't work, try the other 5 settings for DCS.

Also, make sure that the color for the spot UV in the P'shop file and the Illustrator file and the InDesign file all have the same attributes. (Make sure they are the same color, the same name, etc.) That can cause havoc if they aren't the same, but doesn't sound like the issue here.

thanks JoePixel..

I did what you ask me to do .. and I think its much better now with:

Preview = Macintosh 8 bit/pixel
DCS = Multiple file DCS, no composite
Encoding = Binary

I triyed with one of the files and it works fine I hope it will be OK with all of them ..

thanks again
